If you're a publisher located in Cyprus, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Slovenia, or Vatican City, you can now switch to local currency reports to view your earnings in Euros. Once you make this change, any earnings generated from advertisers paying on other currencies will be converted to Euros each day. This also means that if you're receiving payments in Euros, there won't be any additional conversions at the end of the month when payments are issued.
Before you switch to local currency reports, we suggest you download and save copies of your past reports in U.S. dollars for your records. Once you've done that, look for the green prompt in the upper right hand corner of your Reports Overview page. Click the link in the prompt, and you'll be asked to agree to a new set of Terms and Conditions. If you have questions or need legal advice on interpreting the new Terms, please don't hesitate to contact your attorney.
We encourage you to switch to local currency reports soon, since we'll be requiring this update in the future. You can learn more about these new reports in our Help Center, and we also recommend reviewing answers to a few FAQs we covered on the blog before.

We've been hearing your requests for new ways to generate revenue in AdSense, and new ways to maintain control over the ads that appear on your sites. With that in mind, we're pleased to announce plans to give you the ability to allow multiple Google-certified ad networks to compete for display ad space on your site.
You may remember that we began to accept display ads served from qualified third-party vendors over a year ago, which helped increase the number of display ads competing on AdSense publisher sites. With this new change, participating ad networks can also bid in our auction to appear on AdSense sites. This new capability will help you generate the most profit for every ad that appears on your site, whether the ads come from AdWords advertisers or Google-certified ad networks.
Who are these ad networks? They're ad agencies and companies that partner with advertisers and publishers to buy and sell ads on sites they don't own themselves (much like AdSense). You'll now be able to allow advertisers from these networks to compete with AdWords advertisers for your ad space. All reporting and payments will still run through AdSense as they always have, and the available ad formats will be the same as those offered for AdWords ads.
We take the quality of ads delivered to your site seriously, so we'll be certifying all participating ad networks for adherence to our standards for user privacy, ad quality, and speed. You'll have control over which networks can show ads on your pages -- you can choose to opt out of receiving ads from specific networks, or all networks completely. This means you can continue to show ads from only AdWords advertisers if you like. Visit the Help Center to learn more about managing these account settings.
We'll slowly begin allowing ads from Google-certified ad networks to appear on AdSense pages over the coming months, so you won't see an immediate impact on your ads or earnings. As new networks are certified, you'll see them appear in your account. This feature will initially be available to publishers in North America and Europe, but we hope to roll it out to additional parts of the world in the future.
Finally, some ad networks use tools similar to Google's interest-based advertising to show more relevant ads to users on the sites they visit. We'll allow certified networks who comply with user privacy guidelines to show ads using these tools, but they won't be permitted to collect data from your site for the purpose of subsequent interest-based advertising. You'll be able to opt out of receiving ads based on user interests from these certified networks, and we have changed our requirements for third-party ad serving to reflect this.
We're dedicated to providing users with a positive experience, while helping publishers effectively monetize the ads appearing on their sites. We believe you'll find that more competition translates into better ads and increased revenue in the long run.

Do you manage a site in Lithuanian, Ukrainian, or Latvian? If so, we're happy to announce that AdSense for content and AdSense for search are now available for each of these languages.
Visit the AdSense Setup tab in your account to beginning generating ad and search code - our system will automatically take care of targeting ads to the content of your pages and user search queries in these three languages. If you're not yet an AdSense publisher but want to start monetizing your pages in one of these languages, we invite you to review our program policies and submit an application.

As an AdSense Product Manager for ads quality, I'm part of a group that works to make the ads on your site relevant for users. One of the ways we do this is through contextual targeting, which matches ads to the content of your webpages. With contextual targeting, our system parses and analyzes the content of your page, conducts an auction among the relevant ads, then serves the winning ads -- all in the blink of an eye! Pretty simple, right?
Actually, matching relevant ads to the content of your pages is quite a scientific challenge involving semantic analysis and machine learning. It's a challenge that keeps me and my team busy. Our machines are very good at the matching process, but there are still a few cases where their definition of relevance differs from our human definition of relevance. In these few cases, the system might end up serving ads that don't seem immediately relevant to users. We understand that increased ad relevance contributes to a positive experience for users, publishers, and advertisers, so we're continuously working on ways to improve the relevance and quality of ads that appear on your sites.
I'm excited to let you know that this week, we'll be rolling out a series of enhancements to AdSense's contextual targeting capabilities, which will more accurately match relevant ads to webpages. You won't need to update your AdSense account or ad code, as these changes will be applied automatically. In many ways these types of improvements are par for the course at Google - but I wanted to let you know about the kinds of improvements we've been focusing on. Please keep in mind that these changes won't affect how other types of ads are matched to your sites; for instance, you'll continue to see placement-targeted ads when advertisers bid to appear specifically on your pages.
This is by no means the end of our efforts to perfect the system, but we believe that with these changes users will start to see even more relevant ads, advertisers will generate more attractive returns by finding the right users, and publishers should make more money over time.

In the same way that you regularly try out changes to your AdSense ads to increase your earnings, we're also constantly looking for new ways to help you earn more. We've been analyzing the performance of the three available font faces (Arial, Verdana, and Times New Roman), and have found that each font performs best in different ad formats due to factors like character width. Based on these findings, we'd like to let you know that we'll be updating some of the default font faces associated with specific ad formats within the next few days.
This upcoming change will only affect ad units in Latin-based characters which have 'AdSense default' selected as the font face. If you've set an account-wide font face, we hope our findings will encourage you to experiment with other font faces on an ad unit basis.
Currently, most ad units set to the AdSense default font face are displayed in Arial, with a few in Verdana. Here are the new default font faces we're launching for our ad units:
Arial: 728x90, 336x280, 120x600, 120x240 Verdana: 300x250, 160x600, 468x60, 250x250, 234x60, 125x125, 180x150 Times New Roman: 200x200
While we're optimizing the default font face based on performance across all AdSense sites, we also recommend experimenting on your own to determine the best font faces for your ad units and your sites. Just sign in to your account to manually select specific font faces on an ad unit or account-level basis.

To help us better understand what's most important to our publishers, we've recently started conducting email interviews. Interviews are currently available only to publishers located in North America, but we're aiming to expand this program to other countries in the future.
If you're located in North America, you can sign up for a chance to participate in an email interview and openly discuss your opinions about AdSense with a market researcher. Participants will receive a $50 AdWords credit for their time.

To date, we've been sharing AdSense information with you through this blog, Twitter, the AdSense Help Center, and the AdSense Help Forum. You also expressed your interest in Facebook by creating a number of AdSense groups, and we listened. We're pleased to announce that the official AdSense Facebook Fan Page is now up and running! A one-stop shop for up-to-date information, our Facebook Fan Page will be synched with the blog and Twitter, and will house optimization photos and videos that are currently found on our YouTube channel. The AdSense Facebook Fan Page will open up a new method of communication between our team and our publishers. You'll be able to respond to poll questions and complete surveys, helping our team better understand your needs so we can keep improving our products. Our engineers will be performing routine site maintenance this Saturday from 10am to 2pm PDT. In April, we gave you a sneak peek into category filtering, a new feature we've been developing to give publishers more control over their ads. Today, we're excited to announce that we're extending the beta to publishers in a number of English-speaking countries including, but not limited to, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, the U.K., and the U.S.
As a reminder, category filtering lets you prevent ads from up to 5 specific categories such as religion, politics, and dating from appearing on your pages. Your filters will be applied to ads in English, regardless of how they're targeted. In addition, you'll be able to see the percentage that each category contributes to your earnings, which can help you understand any revenue impact you might notice as a result of filtering.
Based on feedback from our initial beta testers, we've also made a few improvements to the feature:
Ad impression impact: To give you a better sense of how many ads you'd be filtering, we've now added an extra column to show you the percentage of ad impressions on your pages which fall into each category.
More accurate percentages: Ad impression and earnings percentages are now calculated based on impressions from the previous 30 days instead of three. This extended time frame should provide a more accurate picture of the types of ads you're receiving and how much revenue they're contributing.
Category descriptions: We've added details about each category directly within your account to help you understand the types of ads that may fall into each.
To see whether category filtering has been enabled for your location, sign in and visit the Ad Review Center, located under the 'AdSense Setup' tab. We're working on expanding this beta to additional languages and countries, and will be sure to announce any updates here on the blog.
